ARCHIVES: LoTR HUMOUR!

Just a bit off-topic

Rain: Hi again everyone
This is a stupid post...so you are all warned. I wanted to share this with you. It's from the LOTR movie forum - from the 'What would the characters not say' thread. I can't remember who wrote it but I think it's hilarious

quote:
In Lorien:
Legolas: They sing a lament for Gandalf.
Can't remember who: What do they say?
Legolas: Blah blah blah Wizard, blah blah blah Grey, blah blah blah Dead. It may sound nice but none of the words mean anything, the Elven languages are just used to make us look superior. We don't actually have more than a couple of words.

Soooo.....what do you think? Come on, I'm still in hysterics. It may be because I haven't had my medication yet but I still think it's funny

Morgan: Rain,
Just HOW much medication do you need?! O.K. yes, it was funny. Though I dare say one might apply the same theory to Wizards as well!
I am glad to see you keeping up with the spirit of things. As mentioned before, this thread is not only a vehicle for lore and learning, but also one for laughing! I am counting on you to keep us entertained

Legolas watched them for a while with a smile upon his lips, and then he turned to the others. `The strongest must seek a way, say you? But I say: let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf or over snow-an Elf.'
I can't imagine what was going through his head as he watched them with that smile on his lips But that part always makes me smile too.

Morgan: Maybe this will help. (cartoon link)

Luthien: Thanks Morgan I needed that!

Happy Easter everyone

Rain: This was good and very funny . I thought I was the only one to like these silly things, Morgan . Anyway, I'm back from my holiday everyone, and I definitely need another holiday (as you said, Morgan). I was meant to finish the Sil over the weekend, but having a bunch of friends on your back 24 hours a day doesn't help much. Legolas sends all his love to everyone in this Club (all the love he can spare from me, which I'm afraid is not much).

I loved your posts everyone - very interesting. Thanks for the info re the stones Morgan, but I don't see Lesson 2 in horse-riding coming up. Abandoned by your other two instructors, are you?

I think if we keep on posting favourite Legolas moments they'll be over in a second. I agree Luthien that there is not enough of Legolas in the books, but then that's what makes him so special I think. Even though he does not say much, you always know he's there - you can almost feel his presence. He makes me laugh too, especially when he and Gimli are having their "elves are strange, dwarves are strange" discussions.

I have other fave Legolas moments for you:
- when he covers Arod's eyes and talks to him softly before they pass the Paths of the Dead
- when Aragorn, Gimli and him are running after the Uruk-Hai, Merry and Pippin - the others sleep during the night and he spends his time singing softly to himself
and, one of the best
- when Gimli describes the caves at Helm's Deep, he says that his people would pay money to be let in - then Legolas says that he would pay money to avoid going in, and double to be let out if he strayed. I always find this hilarious
Sorry, but I can't quote - as usual, my books aren't here because that would be too much even for me - to get my books at work, I mean.

Anyway, glad to be back. S'you all later
Rain, FoL

Elanor: Hi Rain,
Welcome back! You're a diligent one (judging by the time of your post), and so very generous, no doubt!
Mirkwood is wonderful this time of year, is it not? The beech leaves are just beginning to open, and when one particular green leaf is accompanying you as the two of you stroll along the swift River Running at leisurely pace... Silver stars are shining above your heads, and his flowing hair (and yours) are twined with flowers... This is the moment when your eyes fill with tears... because you've got an allergy attack of your life and start sneezing in the most improper manner (No-thud, dear ladies!

I agree with Luthien and I agree with you -there are way too few Legolas moments in the book! I would say disgrace, if reverence for Professor would not prevent me Let's do as Tolkien and Lewis persuaded each other - write them ourselves!

No explanation necessary

Morgan: Elanor, will I rue the day?!

I think this speaks for itself and no further explanation is necessary. LOL! (waterfall pic)

Rain: Uhmmmm...I'm going be careful here. The ears are a bit too big for me, but otherwise.  LOL, why do you think you will regret this day, my dear Morgan?

Elanor: Of course not! Strategically placed objects are totally out of the question.

Elanor: Oh yes!!! It does!!! Volumes!!! My comments are quite redundant. (Wild screams of indignation suppressed)

Morgan: Well after this, who on earth is going to take me seriously intellectually!

Elanor: As far as I remember, drying cloth has never been an issue, has it? All we talked about was dark hair.

Morgan: My dear Hobbit Maid,
I think we may both be in danger of suffering from selective memory.

I will address the silver-blonde hair comment presently.

Luthien: Oh my, Morgan! Where did you ever find that?  Very interesting!

Morgan: Luthien,
If the truth be told, it was purely by accident. Though the timing was most appropriate! I am a fan of the artist Nene Thomas and while browsing her site, she mentioned a link to another site that was hosting her work. The first word I typed in the search section was Legolas naturally! The picture you saw was the first one to come up! How's that for serendipity?

Here's the site it came from if you want to peek.
